Health Center Program: Strengthening the Workforce | Burrows Consulting

Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) Program

Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) Program HRSA-26-011

Funding Opportunity Number: HRSA-26-011 Deadline October 20, 2025

About the Program

The THCGME Program strengthens the health workforce by training physicians and dentists directly in the communities they will serve.

Most teaching health centers are based in community health centers, rural health clinics, and tribal health centers. These sites are deeply embedded in their communities and provide primary care, dental, and behavioral health services to populations that often lack consistent access to care.

By focusing training in these community-based settings rather than traditional hospital-based programs, residents learn firsthand how to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care where it is needed most.

Program Goals

  • Expand access to primary and dental care in underserved and rural communities
  • Improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations
  • Train more physicians and dentists in community-focused residency programs

  • Building residency programs in community health centers, rural clinics, and tribal health centers
  • Recruiting faculty and developing curricula
